ELIC
Introduction
The Ministry of Education’s English Language Improvement Department has designed multiple projects aimed at enhancing English proficiency in Ethiopian Schools. One of their initiatives includes the implementation of the English Language Improving Program (ELIP). In accordance with the Ministry of Education’s policy, Hawassa CTE has been providing ELIP training for both in-service and pre-service teachers since its establishment 2008.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our goal is to enhance the English language proficiency of teacher educators, teachers and students in using English language as a medium of instruction and improve the teaching and training methods used in the Sidama National Regional State.
The Aim of Hawassa CTE-ELIC:
- to promote the wider use of better use of English in Hawassa CTE and beyond,
- to facilitate a conducive environment to exercise the English language in their day to day life,
- to help the teachers be competent in their future career of teaching,
- to endorse their motivation and effort of speaking English,
- to make teachers familiar with the new educational technologies and to be able to utilize,
- to exercise their talent and put learning into action through different techniques of language,
- to let teachers communicate with each other in both formal and informal environments through English language,
- to develop their reading and writing skills depending on their interest,
- to enhance the quality of all subject teachers in terms of being capable to teach and update their knowledge experience, etc.
To achieve these goals Hawassa CTE-ELIC, intends to build upon the ongoing activities of the center. The ELIC at Hawassa CTE has been recognized as a model in Ethiopia. This accolade has given us great incentive to continue improving our effort.
