Welcome to the Social Sciences Stream at Hawassa College of Teacher Education
Social Sciences Stream is one of the senior streams at Hawassa College of Teacher Education
The objectives of the Social Sciences Stream are to cultivate responsible citizens who have a clear understanding of their rights and obligations, recognize their role in making positive contributions to their local communities, country, and the global community, possess strong negotiation skills and have a deep sense of patriotism. This encourages harmonious relationships within society while upholding human rights and democratic principles. By cultivating critical thinking skills, we prepare students to be knowledgeable, skilled, and attitudinally mature. Additionally, the emphasis is placed on producing internationally competitive and cooperative students who believe in justice, tolerance multiculturalism and the rule of law within society.
Furthermore, this stream aims to support a shared collective memory encompassing societal core values, linking past decisions to present political, social, economic, and moral issues. Through an awareness-building process about ancient, medieval and modern civilizations, state formations and significant political entities in Ethiopian history and the Horn region, Africa and globally, this stream aims to contribute to a sense of pride in national history and nation-building.
Moreover, it endeavors to foster environmental consciousness by advocating natural resource management conservation strategies, causes and consequences of climate change, and exploring the intricate relationship between the physical environment, human cultures, population, and settlement. By fostering an understanding of landform characteristics, origins, and formation processes, this stream lays a foundation for the progression of the tourism industry, identifying and comprehending key factors that influence tourism development.
Finally, conducting research to improve the teaching learning process, solve community problem, increase human knowledge, enrich science, promote innovation, share scientific findings with the public and provide community service through giving training on various issues like citizenship, morality, patriotism, multiculturalism, organizing forums on historical issues, producing historical papers and promoting environmental literacy among many.
